Who says that people suffering from depression are illogical? Take me, for example. I have forecasted my future happiness --- being sure to use assumptions that are neither optimistic nor pessimistic --- then discounted the result back to present value. Net present value is less than zero. And therefore, the project should be terminated. To make for an orderly wind-down, I have written a will, cleaned the house, and prepared several letters. The letters go into the mailbox along with a folded note for the mailman: Please call 9-1-1. His route doesn't pass by until around four in the afternoon --- no risk of intervention.
