When Fate Carries Us to Foreign Borders

written By

We build these boundaries along the way

despite being born, like me, on perfect ground.

Sometimes our voyage can lead us astray.

We flee our homes for hearts that don’t betray

when our fate drifts and carries us aground.

We build these boundaries along the way.

We thrive where the sun torches skin and clay

and our legs climb hills where rivers abound.

Sometimes our voyage can lead us astray.

We miss sitting under the Tamarind Tree by day

and drinking its juice from the fruit we found.

We build these boundaries along the way.

The hummingbirds still flutter, so they say,

among hibiscus flowers without sound.

Sometimes our voyage can lead us astray.

Resigned are those who bear decay

over dreams like those who choose new ground.

We build these boundaries along the way.

Sometimes our voyage can lead us astray.
